History

Richard E. Byrd Middle School opened on February 1, 1960 and was named for Admiral Richard E. Byrd – the world’s most famous Antarctic explorer. Over the years the school developed many valuable and productive traditions. Among these traditions is that of being excellent in everything we do. Driven by that quest for excellence, Byrd has become recognized as the best middle school in town. As we opened school at our new site in September, 2008, we are carrying our reputation for excellence with us.
