Phone Free Day Policy
Cell Phone Policy
Beginning February 18, 2025 - Per LAUSD Policy
Richard E. Byrd Middle School will begin the Phone-Free School Day implementation on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. Students will be required to store them in their assigned Yondr Pouch during the school day. This also applies to devices that provide similar functionality to a smartphone, such as a smart watch, earbuds, and smart glasses. The school day refers to the time between when the morning bell rings for instruction and when the dismissal bell rings. The benefits of a Phone-Free School Day are to increase and enhance the focus on learning, improvement of social interaction, promote physical activity, and overall student mental health and wellness.
The following outline the steps for implementation:
· Students will be issued and assigned a pouch to store their cellular phone
· Students are required to place their phones into their assigned pouches, which will be secured and locked
· Students will then place their pouch inside their backpacks throughout the school day
· Students will unlock their pouches to retrieve their cell phones at the designated stations located throughout the campus when the school day ends.
- In the event that a parent must reach their child, they may call our Main Office Office number: (818) 394-4300.
- In the event that a student must contact their parent, they may go to the Main Office to use the office phone to call home.
Our school will continue to encourage students and parents to follow the policy. Support will be provided throughout the implementation for a successful transition. Additional resources and information will be available and posted on this site.
We thank you for your continued engagement and support.
